Zemurray-Stone Post-Doctoral Fellows in Latin American Studies

The Zemurray-Stone Post-Doctoral Fellows in Latin American Studies are intended to foster the professional development of gifted scholars, to enrich the Stone Center for Latin American Studies’ vigorous research environment, and to foster intellectual exchange among the Center’s research community. We seek candidates in the humanities and social sciences engaged in scholarly or creative work on topics related to existing areas of institutional strength. Fellows are expected to participate in the full intellectual life of the Center and to offer an advanced interdisciplinary seminar on a subject of their choice during the spring of the fellowship year.

The Stone Center, which includes a core community of 70 faculty across a broad spectrum of disciplinary and professional fields, invites applications for a one-year post-doctoral fellowship for the 2017-2018 academic year. To promote new innovative interdisciplinary research clusters, the Stone Center solicits applications from scholars whose research and career objectives would benefit from collaborating with the Center’s staff and Executive Committee in identifying and shaping a new series of thematic research clusters that will foster collaborative inquiry outside normal disciplinary structures and address some of the most pressing issues in the field of Latin American Studies. The Fellow would first help identify these themes and then would work with one or more of these collaborative groups to structure an initial program of visiting scholars, seminars, and research outcomes for future implementation.

Fellows will be selected following two criteria: (1) intellectual merit and (2) the potential impact that their research, teaching, and experience would have on the strategic advancement of Latin American Studies at Tulane. The ideal candidate’s research will complement areas of strength represented by current Tulane faculty. Successful candidates should also have strong organizational and interpersonal abilities, excellent written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively, and experience in managing multiple projects.

Fellowships are one-year, residential, full-time appointments with a stipend of $47,500 plus benefits. Travel and moving expenses are not supported. Applicants who are ABD must complete their Ph.D. by June 2017 and absolutely must have the Ph.D. in hand by the start of the Fall 2017 semester. Preference will be given to those who have not had recent access to Tulane University’s resources and whose research would benefit from such access.

Application must be submitted via Interfolio by visiting and must include (1) a curriculum vitae; (2) a cover letter describing research interests and your particular capacity to contribute to this Center initiative; (3) a graduate transcript; (4) two recommendation letters; (5) a writing sample; (6) a detailed proposal for at least one content course or seminar; and (6) teaching evaluations if available. For additional information on the Stone Center and its programs, please visit our website: .Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning on February 15, 2017, until the position is filled.

Tulane University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action/ADA employer committed to excellence through diversity. All eligible candidates are invited to apply for position vacancies as appropriate.
